I was at the Associated Writing Programs conference in Tampa in March, where students and professor of creative writing gather for a weekend. I had a great time, because I was on the lookout for Latino writers, and I found them.
And this young man was a true find! William Palomo is the son of two immigrants from El Salvador. In 2017, he received the MLK Building Bridges Graduate Student Award, the Latino Faculty & Staff Graduate Student Award and the City of Bloomington Latino Leadership Award for his work serving undocumented communities in Indiana. His book reviews and poetry has been featured in Muzzle, PBS, Waxwing, The Wandering Song: Central American Writing in the United States, and www.palomopoemas.com.
William has a lot to say, and the cadences and lilts to say it. Puro salvadoreño, poet, hip-hop artist, and yes, Mormon…he’s got a hell of a story to tell.
